This is the wonderful message that is being spread everywhere, powerfully changing hearts throughout the earth, just like it has changed you! Every believer of this good news bears the fruit of eternal life as they experience the reality of God’s grace.– Colossians 1:6 TPT
Wow, wow, wow! I still can’t get over how incredible this passage is! This is our flagship verse for Reality Church and it’s loaded with powerful truth! It also has special meaning for us because of the way reality and grace are paired up together.
God has been speaking to Brooke & I for some time about the calling we have as a church to emphasise His grace.
Last year I preached a message in our Graceology series about the journey God had taken me on to encounter and understand more about His grace. On that journey I went from having grace as a bullet point in my life, to grace becoming my foundation.
I can honestly say that discovering grace in a fresh way was as big a deal in my life as when I first met Jesus. Grace completely undid me and put me back together, only way better than before and with greater freedom to be who God created me to be.
So when God gave us the name Reality and then led us to this verse, it was a huge confirmation that we were to be a church that points people to the grace of God and to do it like never before.
Because grace powerfully changes hearts! Grace radically transforms lives and grace produces supernatural fruit that no amount or striving or human effort could ever produce.
Trust me, I’ve lived a version of following Jesus that emphasised my effort, my righteousness, and my performance. The fruit of that was feelings of failure, condemnation and a judgmental attitude towards people. Sounds more like a Pharisee than a Christian, right?
The fruit of grace is radically different. Grace puts the focus on Jesus, not on us. An emphasis on grace brings a deeper understanding of God’s love for us and awakens our love for Him like a fire that’s out of control!
The more we experience the reality of His grace, the more we burn with passionate love for Him, changing more a more to be like Him.
Grace is not a 5 point sermon to simply be learned and memorised, rather, a person to be encountered and His name is Jesus. Grace is a life long journey of discovery, revelation and beholding the wonder of all Jesus has done for us.
Let’s walk this journey together and champion the grace of God that’s at work in each one of us, all the while declaring that ‘Grace Abounds Here’ and so does it’s fruit! Changed hearts, and transformed lives.
This is what we’re about at Reality Church.
